Nice

Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 30 × 40 cm
Year: 2024

Olga Trikhleb's 2024 artwork "Nice" is a landscape divided into three horizontal registers. The lower part of the canvas is dedicated to a pebble beach, where textural brushstrokes create a relief surface of scattered stones and the white crests of oncoming foam. The middle band is occupied by the sea in deep turquoise and blue hues with soft tonal transitions and light ripples on the water's surface. The upper plane is given over to a wide sky, painted impasto: dense grey-white clouds are interspersed with breaks of blue. On the horizon, between the smooth expanse of water and the cloudy sky, a light silhouette of the coastline with hills is delineated. The painting's palette is built upon natural combinations of ochre, green, blue, grey, and white tones. The oil layer possesses a pronounced materiality and traces of brushwork.
